Purpose

Dispatch Pro uses these measurements to check if a truck can carry an order. Enter weight and volume for one base product unit. This lets the planner check orders sold in other units.

These values are for delivery plans. They do not change stock or price. For package measurements, see Shipping.

Where to find it

  1. Open Inventory.
  2. Create a product or open an existing product and choose Edit.
  3. When Dispatch Pro is available, find the delivery-capability fields in the product form.

Product locationInventory > Product > Edit > Delivery capability

Prerequisites and availability

  • These fields are for Dispatch Pro products. In-store products do not need delivery measurements.
  • Use the product’s base unit. Check its label and other unit conversions before adding measurements.
  • Enter nonnegative values. The form accepts weight in whole pounds and volume in tenths of a cubic yard.
  • Weight and volume may be left blank when unknown. You can still save other product edits, but Dispatch Pro cannot make a full capacity check until the measurements are entered.

Setup and operating steps

  1. Open or create the deliverable product in Inventory.
  2. Confirm the base unit. A product sold by a cubic yard, ton, pallet, bag, or each must have a clear base unit before capacity values can be trusted.
  3. Enter Weight per Unit in pounds for one base unit.
  4. Enter Volume per Unit in cubic yards for one base unit.
  5. Save the product and create a small test plan in a delivery order. Confirm that the planned quantity fits the truck’s configured weight and volume.
  6. If a product has alternate units, test one alternate quantity and confirm that the plan converts it to the same base-unit totals.

Save a product when measurements are unknown

Weight and volume are optional when saving a product edit. If a measurement is unknown, leave it blank instead of guessing a number. You can still update the description or another product detail.

Without both values, Dispatch Pro cannot fully check the load. It may show Missing Weight/Volume and leave the load out of a capacity-based plan.

Plan only the delivery part of a mixed order

One product line can have pickup now, Future Will Call, and delivery. Dispatch Pro plans only the saved Delivery amount. It changes that amount to the product's base unit, then checks weight and volume. Pickup and Will Call stay at their chosen locations.

Use Orders to create or change the fulfillment split. After a change, review the new delivery quantity and load plan before saving.

Field reference

Delivery capability fields
FieldMeaning, default, and validation
Weight per Unit (lbs) and Volume per Unit (cu yd)Weight and volume for one base unit. On a new product, both may be blank. Enter weight in whole pounds and volume in 0.1 cubic-yard steps. Fill both in for a full capacity check.
Weight per Unit (lbs)Enter the product’s base-unit weight in pounds. Zero is allowed by the form, but a zero or missing value cannot represent a useful loaded weight for capacity planning.
Volume per Unit (cu yd)Enter the product’s base-unit volume in cubic yards. Zero is allowed by the form, but a zero or missing value cannot represent a useful bulk-volume check.
Missing Weight/VolumeA planning indicator shown when the product lacks the physical data needed for delivery planning. It is a status to resolve, not a measurement input. Complete the two fields above and save the product.

Expected results

Dispatch Pro changes each order amount to base units. It checks the totals against truck and compartment limits. It may split a large load based on the yard or ton setting and truck space. Missing weight or volume can block a full capacity check.

Troubleshooting

  • Missing Weight/Volume remains: confirm both values are saved on the product, not only entered in an unsaved form.
  • Capacity is unexpectedly high or low: check the base unit and alternate-unit conversion. A value for one bag or one pallet must not be entered as though it represented a whole yard.
  • A shipment label is wrong: use the packed dimensions and weight in Ready-To-Ship Package; delivery capability values are for Dispatch Pro.
  • Planning still cannot build a load: review the truck’s max volume, max weight, compartments, and material capability in Trucks.
