Purpose

Earned category pricing gives an enrolled customer a better tier price after they meet a spend or quantity target in one product category. Progress starts over each calendar month or year. The earned tier applies only to products in that category.

Where to find it

Open Settings > Earned Pricing, then choose New pricing program. Open a customer’s Earned Pricing tab to review their current progress.

Prerequisites and availability

  • An administrator or manager should agree on the category, target, reset period, and tier prices before setting up a program.
  • The chosen category must be active and have active products. Add prices for the program’s tiers to those products in Pricing.
  • Only enrolled customers can earn the tier. Enroll each customer in the program.
  • Only one program can be active for a category at a time. Quantity programs need every active product in the category to use the same base unit.

Create and run a program

  1. Open Settings > Earned Pricing and choose New pricing program.
  2. Enter a Program name and choose an active Product category.
  3. Under Customers qualify by, choose Dollars spent in this category or Quantity in the category’s base unit. Use spend when the category has different units. Use quantity only when all active products share one base unit.
  4. Under Progress resets, choose Every calendar month or Every calendar year. FlintPOS uses the store’s time zone for the reset.
  5. Under Pricing steps, enter a unique threshold and the tier the customer should earn. Choose Add step for another threshold. Thresholds must be greater than zero. For example, $500 spent can earn Contractor and $1,500 can earn Wholesale.
  6. Save the program. Then use Add a customer to search and enroll each account that can earn this pricing.
  7. Turn on Make this program active and choose Save changes. Review a customer’s progress in the program or in the customer’s Earned Pricing tab.
  8. Test with an enrolled customer and an eligible product. Confirm the threshold, category, tier price, order total, and tax before using the program for sales.

Orders with status Complete or Delivered count only when they are paid in full and were completed after both the program was created and the customer enrolled. Quotes and unpaid orders do not count. When a customer reaches a step, FlintPOS uses the lower matching price from the customer’s regular tier and earned tier for products in the program category.

Example: an enrolled customer earns a Contractor tier after spending $500 on eligible plants in one month. Four fully paid orders with $125 in plant line value after discounts each reach $500; line discounts lower the spend that counts. A quote, an unpaid order, another product category, tax, and delivery fees do not add to this category total. After the target is reached, only plants in that category can use the earned price. If the customer’s regular price is already lower, FlintPOS keeps the lower regular price.

Expected results

The program shows each customer’s progress and the next tier they can earn. When a customer reaches a target, eligible products in that category use the best price between their regular tier and the earned tier. Other categories keep their normal prices.

Troubleshooting

  • Customer has no progress: check that the program is active, the customer is enrolled, and the order was completed and paid after enrollment. Quotes and unpaid orders do not count.
  • Quantity program will not save: check that all active products in the category use the same base unit. Choose a spend program or split products into compatible categories if they use different units.
  • Earned tier does not change the price: confirm the customer reached the threshold and the product belongs to the selected category. Check the product’s price for that tier. A better regular price can remain in effect.
  • Cannot activate another program: turn off the current active program for the category before enabling the new one.
  • Need to change the category, target type, or reset period: if the program already has progress, create a new program. FlintPOS locks those rules after progress exists.
