Purpose

A register links a checkout station to a store location, payment services, card reader, cash drawer, and printers. Its cash session records drawer cash at the start and end of a shift.

Where to find it

Admins set up registers in Settings > Payments > Register Setup. Staff choose Open Register or Register Control in POS to start or end a cash session.

Product locationSettings > Payments > Register Setup

Before you start

  • An admin or manager sets up the register and picks its location.
  • Set up a payment service before you choose it for a register. Select a card reader only when that reader is connected to this station.
  • Pair the station you are using. Do not pair a different counter by mistake.

Set up a register and run a shift

  1. In Settings > Payments > Register Setup, choose Add register or open a register to edit.
  2. Enter a name, choose its physical location, then select any configured payment service and reader used at this station.
  3. Choose this machine when it should be paired with the register. Save the register settings. Set printers under Printing.
  4. At the start of a shift, open the POS and choose Open Register. Count the cash physically in the drawer, enter it as Starting Cash in Drawer, add an optional note, and choose Open Register.
  5. During the shift, use Register Control to record cash added, cash removed, or a change exchange. Enter the amount and reason shown by the form.
  6. At the end of the shift, count the cash in the drawer. Open Register Control and choose Close Register. Compare Expected in Drawer with your count. Enter the actual amount and add a note about a difference.
  7. Choose Close Register. Review the closing report and its Over or Short amount before choosing Done.

Example: start with $100 in the drawer, collect $250 in cash, then record $5 removed. Expected cash is $345. If the drawer count is $340, the register shows $5 short. Enter the $340 you counted and add a note; do not change the count to match the expected amount.

Troubleshooting

  • The wrong station or location appears: check the register's location and pair only the intended workstation.
  • A payment reader is missing: check the selected payment service, reader assignment, and station pairing. Use the setup page's test or refresh action when available.
  • The drawer count does not match: review cash payments, refunds, and cash added or removed. Enter the amount you counted; use a note to explain a difference.
  • You need a reprint: use the order's print action. Do not open or close a cash session to retry a printer job.
  • You cannot remove the register: close its active cash session first.
