Purpose
Use Promotions to set a sale for a product or category, make a code customers enter at checkout, or give a lower price when a customer buys enough of one product. Use Pricing for regular customer tiers and negotiated prices.
Where to find it
- Open Promotions from the merchant workspace for sales, product quantity offers, and promotion codes.
- For an offer on one product, open Inventory > product > Pricing and find Quantity offer.
- Review the Scheduled sales and Promotion codes lists to edit, enable, disable, or delete a rule.
Product locationsMerchant workspace > PromotionsInventory > product > Pricing > Quantity offer
Prerequisites and availability
- An administrator or manager can create and change product quantity offers. Promotion controls follow the account’s pricing permissions.
- Sale products must be active. Category rules use the category and its subcategories. Choose the product or categories before you set the discount.
- Sale and offer dates use the store’s calendar date. A change affects future prices; it does not rewrite a completed order.
- A quantity offer applies to one product. Items of different products do not count toward its quantity.
Create a sale, offer, or code
- For an automatic sale, open Promotions and choose Schedule a sale. Choose a Sale target: an individual product, a category and its subcategories, or a subcategory and its descendants.
- Enter a Sale name. For one product, enter the exact Sale price. For a category, choose Amount off each item or Percentage off, then enter the amount. The discount cannot exceed the item price.
- Set Starts and Ends, then choose Schedule sale. Check its status in Scheduled sales. Edit it or use its toggle when the dates or campaign change.
- For a volume offer on one product, open the product’s Pricing tab and find Quantity offer. Enter an Offer name, choose an Offer type, set its quantity or discount, choose the dates, and turn on Offer enabled. Choose Schedule quantity offer or Save quantity offer.
- For Quantity discount, enter the minimum quantity and Discounted price per base unit. When the order reaches the minimum, that price applies to every eligible unit of the product. For example, a $5 price at a minimum of 3 units makes 3 units cost $15 and 4 cost $20.
- For BOGO, enter the discount percentage for every second unit in each pair. For Buy one, get the rest, enter the discount for each unit after the first. Both accept a discount over 0% and up to 100%. The default is 50%.
- For a code customers enter, choose Create a category code. Enter a Code and Name, choose Percentage off or Amount off each item, set optional dates, and select eligible categories. Each selected category includes its subcategories. Choose Create promotion code.
- Test the sale or code with an eligible product and date in a sale or Storefront checkout. Review the line price and order total. Disable a rule to stop it from applying to future orders.
Quantity offers use the product’s base unit. Compatible alternate units count after conversion, but a fixed alternate-unit price does not count. The offer is compared with other eligible prices and does not add a second discount when another rule gives the customer a lower price. Offers save separately from product changes, so save the product first. Leaving Ends blank keeps a quantity offer on until you disable it.
Choose a scheduled sale when every eligible customer should see a lower price during set dates. Choose a category code when the customer must enter a code for the discount. Choose a quantity offer when the deal depends on buying enough of one product. For example, a 10% sale on a $10 pot makes it $9 during the sale dates without a code. A quantity offer that requires 3 pots does not apply to 2 pots, and a different product does not make up the missing third pot.
Field and action reference
| Field or action | Meaning and guidance |
|---|---|
| Sale target | Choose one product, a category and all subcategories, or a subcategory and its descendants. Changing the target clears the old choice. |
| Sale name | Required name for the campaign. Use up to 150 characters. |
| Sale price | For an individual product, this is the exact price during the sale. It can be $0.00 or more. |
| Category discount type and value | Choose Amount off each item or Percentage off. Amount must be greater than zero. Percentage can be from 0 to 100. |
| Starts and Ends | Set the first and last sale dates. A new sale starts today and ends seven days later by default. Status follows the saved dates and whether the sale is enabled. |
| Offer type | Quantity discount lowers the price for all units after the order reaches its minimum. BOGO discounts every second unit in a pair. Buy one, get the rest discounts each unit after the first. |
| Minimum quantity and discounted price | Quantity discount uses the product’s base unit. Enter a positive minimum and a price of $0.00 or more per base unit. |
| Discount percentage | For BOGO and Buy one, get the rest, enter more than 0% and no more than 100%. The discount applies to the units named by the offer. |
| Code and Name | Enter a code of up to 64 characters and a name of up to 150 characters. Customers or staff enter the code at checkout. |
| Promotion code discount | Choose Percentage off or Amount off each item. Amount off is per base product unit; converted units scale with their conversion. |
| Eligible categories | Choose the categories where the code can apply. Each chosen category includes its subcategories. With none selected, the code has no category limit. |
| Code Starts and Ends | Dates are optional. A blank start or end leaves that limit unset. |
| Enable, Disable, Edit, Delete | Enable or disable a rule for future orders. Edit to change its details. Delete removes the rule; completed order history stays the same. |
Expected results
The rule appears under Scheduled sales or Promotion codes with its target, price or discount, dates, and status. Eligible checkout lines show the price or discount that applied. Completed orders keep their saved prices.
Troubleshooting
- Product or category is missing: check that the product is active or that the category exists in Inventory.
- Offer does not apply: check that it is enabled and the order date is within its date range. For quantity offers, confirm the same product reaches the base-unit minimum.
- Quantity total is not lower: another eligible price may already be lower. Manual prices, negotiated prices, and fixed alternate-unit prices are not part of quantity-offer counting.
- Code is rejected: check spelling, dates, selected categories, and that the item belongs to a selected category.
- New offer disappears after canceling product edits: offers save on their own. Check the Scheduled sales list and disable or edit the offer there.
- Old order price is different: promotion changes affect future pricing. Review the saved order for its recorded line price.
