Purpose
Operate the desktop wrapper that launches FlintPOS, checks the set up cloud connection, and manages workstation-local settings.
Where to find it
- Open the FlintPOS desktop application.
- Use the system tray menu for Open POS, Refresh Status, updates, or Quit.
- If the load-error page appears, choose Retry or Use Default Cloud URL.

Before you start
- This article applies to the workstation wrapper and its local setup. It does not describe merchant database backup or restore.
- The cloud URL and local workstation settings must be available to the desktop app.
Steps to follow
- Choose Open POS to show the merchant app.
- Choose Refresh Status to check the connection without closing the wrapper.
- When a load error appears, choose Retry. Use Use Default Cloud URL only when the set up URL should be reset.
- Use Check for Updates when offered. If an update is ready, the menu changes to Restart to Update.
- Use the workstation setup export/import controls, when present, only to move desktop settings between workstations. They never export or restore merchant data.
For example, if the internet drops for a moment, use Retry after the connection returns. If the saved cloud URL is wrong and this workstation should use FlintPOS’s default address, use Use Default Cloud URL; it replaces that URL choice and retries. It does not fix a network problem or a sign-in issue.
Fields and actions
| Field or action | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Retry | Retries the desktop app load after checking the workstation network or cloud connection. |
| Use Default Cloud URL | Replaces the failed workstation URL choice with the default FlintPOS cloud URL. Then retries the load. |
| Open POS | Shows the merchant POS window from the system tray. |
| Refresh Status | Checks the cloud connection and updates the tray status. |
| Check for Updates / Restart to Update | Checks for a desktop update. When an update is ready, the same menu action restarts the workstation to apply it. |
| Quit | Closes the desktop wrapper. |
| Workstation settings export and import | When these desktop actions are available, they move workstation setup such as the cloud connection and local device preferences. They never back up, restore, or export the merchant database. |
Check the result
The wrapper opens the POS against the chosen cloud service, reports connection status, and keeps workstation-local settings separate from merchant records.
If you cannot type in a card field
In the Windows app, bring FlintPOS to the front and click the card field again. The app can try to restore focus for a supported hosted card form. That does not submit a payment.
If typing still fails, check the order and card service before trying another charge. Contact support with the time, app version, and card service name. Do not send card numbers or security codes.
Troubleshooting
- POS will not load: choose Retry. Then check the workstation network and cloud URL.
- Status is stale: choose Refresh Status.
- Update does not finish: reopen the tray menu and use Restart to Update when it appears.
